For the record, those of you who say tea - when going out on a date are you taking/being taken to 'tea' or are you going out for DINNER?

The main meal of the day is dinner. If dinner's in the middle of the day, the light evening meal is tea. If dinner's in the evening, the light midday(ish) meal is lunch.
Here endeth the lesson.

It certainly does. If I was Southern, it would take ages to get home for my dinner/tea, as I work in Liverpool.

But yes it does - ive never known any southerner to say tea, with the exception of primary school children who invite friends home for tea - thats the only context ive ever heard it in.
