Channel 4 have somehow managed to rebrand their original format and present it to us as an exciting new Shipwrecked experience. Countless fiddling around with the series had clearly alienated stalwart fans. So it’s back to basics, rations comprised entirely of supermarket value ranges, building their own shelters and no warring factions.

There really wasn’t any need because after all, this is the tropical version of Big Brother. You put people like the sexually ambiguous Jamie aka Kitten and the modelling mogul Anna together, people designed to wind each other and the viewing public up in equal amounts and you really don’t need to worry about organising battles or swapping team members around. Anna and Jamie will soon get tired of sunbathing, run out of conditioner and start providing you with pure, organic entertainment.

Of course, these veritable baby-boomers of the reality TV generation have cast iron game plans. Most of these seem to revolve around swim wear and talking louder than everybody else.

Howeve , Tristan, is determined to ‘kill everything I get my hands on’. He’s been voted Island leader for next week, which is an interesting decision, a bit like putting Bear Grylls in charge of the cast of Hollyoaks. I hope Tristan fails miserably, has a crisis of faith and is reduced to a trembling vegetarian by the end of the series.

Steve, on the other hand, is determined to sleep with everything he gets his hands on. I hope that Steve ends up making love to a volleyball a la Castaway. Which, given the endowments of some of his fellow islanders, seems entirely possible.
