Thanks for the reply Silkie. I'm glad you got something really valuable out of your Shipwrecked experience. My favorite source of protein is chick peas. I also like soy products and there are a ton of different beans too (kidney, red, lima ...).
I find it a healthier way of eating because you do have to be cautious about all processed foods because you don't know what's in them and so tend not to eat as much processed food.
I started off as a vegetarian because for one thing I loved ice cream

and I just thought that if I wasn't eating meat I wouldn't be contributing to the killing of animals until a vegan friend of mine opened my eyes about dairy cows, even from organic farms, and how the cows are continuously impregnated, the calfs are taken from them usually within 48 hours (most of the males are either killed right away or sold to veal farms) and they are generally confined and are usually sent to slaughter after their milk production is over. I read somewhere before that cows can live for up to 25 years but a diary cow has a life expectancy of only 5 years.
Sorry for the rambling sometimes when I start I can't stop. But it really was shocking to me when I sat there eating my bowl of ice cream and was told I just killed a calf.

It may have been a bit dramatic but it got me to read up on it anyway.
I'm really glad you were on the show and weren't afraid to speak your mind or give your opinions on the subject, which I know isn't always a popular or easy thing to do. And you definately got people talking and thinking and I think that's a great thing.
